National Award Winning ProgramFor Daisy, Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts and Girls 11-17 As we log online and surf the web in our ever-changing world, let us regroup and survey our surroundings. What is occurring in our communities? You may be shocked to learn that violence is experienced in 28% of teen relationships. Twenty percent of homicide victims are between the ages of 15-24. A husband or boyfriend is responsible for killing one out of three women murdered in the United States every year. We cannot predict how this information will affect you, but we can predict how this affects the children of domestic violence. The children of domestic violence are scared, they feel guilty, are insecure, angry, feel cheated, confused, neglected, powerless and alone. In an effort to combat this epidemic of violence the Girl Scouts of the Pioneer Council, in collaboration with the shelters in our five county jurisdiction, are implementing Peace On Earth Begins At Home, a Domestic Violence Awareness Patch Program. Peace On Earth Begins At Home, is an ongoing patch program, for all age groups, which will be offered year after year and updated as necessary. All the information needed to begin the program is in a separate booklet. This booklet may be obtained at your monthly Service Unit meetings or by contacting your Membership Manager. Patches are available for purchase at the council shop. As Girl Scouts we strive to "make the world a better place." We promise to do this when we say we will live by the Girl Scout Law. Begin by making the world a better place in your own community. Begin with the Domestic Violence Awareness Patch Program, Peace On Earth Begins At Home. |
