Support Our Troops Patch

Whether it is your dad, mom, brother, sister, aunt, uncle or friend, we know how important our men and women of the Armed Forces are to our country. To help celebrate and show our support for our troops, the Support Our Troops patch program was created. Once completed, patches are able to be purchased at the Girl Scout Store.

Participants must complete 6 of the 10 activities, including activity #1.

1.	Select one of the four branches of the Armed Forces and learn about its history. When was it established? What are they responsible for? Talk with a military recruiter and learn about the different careers with this branch.

2.	US Armed Forces are sent or deployed all over the world. Find out about three of these places and what the troops' responsibilities are.

3.	Make pocket flags for troops. (For more information go to www.pocketflagproject.com)

4.	Participate in the annual Veteran's Day Parade or a Welcome Home Ceremony for returning troops.

5.	Perform a Flag Ceremony.

6.	Invite a member of the Armed Forces or a Veteran to a troop meeting and have them speak about their experience in the Armed Forces.

7.	Create a care package to send overseas to deployed troops (this includes selling cookies for “Cookies for the Troops”).

8.	Complete a Service Project to honor Veteran's or assist families of current Armed Forces members. The following are some suggestions:


	o	Place flags on Veteran's graves.
	o	Help with yard or housework for a family of a deployed solider.
	o	Conduct a donation drive for toiletry items for deployed soldiers in cooperation with the base command.
	o	Create a Family Fun Day.


9.	Write a Thank You letter of card to an Armed Forces member or a Veteran

10.	Hang yellow ribbons to show your support or create red, white and blue crafts and give them to your local VA hospital.
